The Altar on Mount Ebal

1Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: "Keep all these commands that I give you today.1Now Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep the whole commandment that I command you today.1Then Moses and the elders of Israel charged the people, saying, "Keep all the commandments which I command you today.1And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.1Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, "Keep every command I am giving you today.
2When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the LORD your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster.2And on the day you cross over the Jordan to the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall set up large stones and plaster them with plaster.2"So it shall be on the day when you cross the Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with lime2And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:2At the time you cross the Jordan into the land the LORD your God is giving you, you must set up large stones and cover them with plaster.
3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.3And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.3and write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over, so that you may enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.3And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.3Write all the words of this law on the stones after you cross to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
4And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster.4And when you have crossed over the Jordan, you shall set up these stones, concerning which I command you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster.4"So it shall be when you cross the Jordan, you shall set up on Mount Ebal, these stones, as I am commanding you today, and you shall coat them with lime.4Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.4When you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I am commanding you today, and you are to cover them with plaster.

5Build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them.5And there you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You shall wield no iron tool on them;5"Moreover, you shall build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones; you shall not wield an iron tool on them.5And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.5Build an altar of stones there to the LORD your God--you must not use any iron tool on them.
6Build the altar of the LORD your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God.6you shall build an altar to the LORD your God of uncut stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God,6"You shall build the altar of the LORD your God of uncut stones, and you shall offer on it burnt offerings to the LORD your God;6Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:6Use uncut stones to build the altar of the LORD your God and offer burnt offerings to the LORD your God on it.
7Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God.7and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and shall eat there, and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God.7and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and eat there, and rejoice before the LORD your God.7And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the LORD thy God.7There you are to sacrifice fellowship offerings, eat, and rejoice in the presence of the LORD your God.
8And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up."8And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.”8"You shall write on the stones all the words of this law very distinctly."8And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.8Write clearly all the words of this law on the plastered stones."
9Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, "Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the LORD your God.9Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: this day you have become the people of the LORD your God.9Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel, saying, "Be silent and listen, O Israel! This day you have become a people for the LORD your God.9And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.9Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel, "Be silent, Israel, and listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.
10Obey the LORD your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today."10You shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today.”10"You shall therefore obey the LORD your God, and do His commandments and His statutes which I command you today."10Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.10Obey the LORD your God and follow His commands and statutes I am giving you today."

Curses Pronounced from Ebal

11On the same day Moses commanded the people:11That day Moses charged the people, saying,11Moses also charged the people on that day, saying,11And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,11On that day Moses commanded the people, "
12When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin.12“When you have crossed over the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.12"When you cross the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.12These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:12When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes will stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
13And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.13And these shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.13"For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.13And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.13And these tribes will stand on Mount Ebal to deliver the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:14And the Levites shall declare to all the men of Israel in a loud voice:14"The Levites shall then answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,14And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,14The Levites will proclaim in a loud voice to every Israelite:

15"Cursed is anyone who makes an idol--a thing detestable to the LORD, the work of skilled hands--and sets it up in secret." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"15“‘Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast metal image, an abomination to the LORD, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’15Cursed is the man who makes an idol or a molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'15Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.15The person who makes a carved idol or cast image, which is detestable to the LORD, the work of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret is cursed.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen!'
16"Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"16“‘Cursed be anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’16'Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'16Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.16The one who dishonors his father or mother is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
17"Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor's boundary stone." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"17“‘Cursed be anyone who moves his neighbor’s landmark.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’17'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'17Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.17The one who moves his neighbor's boundary marker is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
18"Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"18“‘Cursed be anyone who misleads a blind man on the road.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’18Cursed is he who misleads a blind person on the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'18Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.18The one who leads a blind person astray on the road is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
19"Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"19“‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’19'Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'19Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.19The one who denies justice to a foreigner, a fatherless child, or a widow is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'

20"Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father's wife, for he dishonors his father's bed." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"20“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his father’s wife, because he has uncovered his father’s nakedness.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’20'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's skirt.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'20Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; because he uncovereth his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.20The one who sleeps with his father's wife is cursed, for he has violated his father's marriage bed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
21"Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"21“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with any kind of animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’21'Cursed is he who lies with any animal.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'21Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.21The one who has sexual intercourse with any animal is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
22"Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"22“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his sister, whether the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’22'Cursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'22Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.22The one who sleeps with his sister, whether his father's daughter or his mother's daughter is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
23"Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"23“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’23'Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'23Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.23The one who sleeps with his mother-in-law is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
24"Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"24“‘Cursed be anyone who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’24'Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'24Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.24The one who secretly kills his neighbor is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'

25"Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"25“‘Cursed be anyone who takes a bribe to shed innocent blood.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’25'Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'25Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.25The one who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'
26"Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"26“‘Cursed be anyone who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’26'Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'26Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.26Anyone who does not put the words of this law into practice is cursed.' And all the people will say, 'Amen!'"
